President Joe Biden said in an interview on Monday that it looks like the Democrats will not be able to convict former President Trump – once again – during a process of indictment.
His comments are a likely blow to Democrats and come when the House Democrats presented an article of accusation to the Senate on Monday night.
QUICK FACTS
- Trump will be tried weeks after the House voted to charge him with a single count of ‘incitement to rebellion’.
- The trial itself is expected to begin on Tuesday, February 9, weeks after Trump’s last day in office.
Republican convictions over Trump have cooled since the January 6 riot at the Capitol. Instead, Republicans are running a tangle of legal arguments against the legitimacy of the trial, asking them whether Trump’s repeated demands to overthrow Joe Biden’s election really amount to incitement.
