Disney’s official statement regarding the shutdown reads in part:
In the coming year, Disney will focus on providing a more seamless, personalized and franchise-focused e-commerce experience through its shopDisney platform, which will be complemented by greater integration with Disney Parks applications and social media platforms. It will be accompanied by a range of new and high-end merchandise from the company’s full range of brands, including adult clothing and artist collaborations, modern streetwear, premium home products and collectibles.
“While consumer behavior has shifted to online shopping, the global pandemic that consumers expect from a retailer has changed,” said Stephanie Young, president of Consumer Products Games and Publishing. ‘Over the past few years, we’ve been focusing on meeting consumers where they’ve already spending their time, such as expanding stores in Disney stores around the world. We now plan to create a more flexible, interconnected e-commerce experience that gives consumers easy access to unique, high-quality products across all of our franchises. ”
