Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp is taking a practical approach to rebuilding the team.
Chris Spielman, who joined the Lions ‘front office in December, said this morning on 97.1 The Ticket that Hamp is involved in the Lions’ meetings while discussing the improvement of their staff.
‘[Hamp] was involved by being during all these staff meetings. “She had two days of offensive meetings of free agencies and defense meetings of free agencies,” Spielman said via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.
The extent to which owners become involved with staff varies from team to team, and some follow the Jerry Jones approach and appoint themselves as general manager, while others do not find out who the general manager signs or draws up until the general public realizes it. Hamp, who is on his way to becoming head owner in the first season after taking over the team from her mother, is not Jerry Jones. But she sounds like she’s going to be on the more involved side.
