Senator Lindsey Graham has said he will ask former President Donald Trump to give his political weight to Republicans’ drive to take back the House and Senate in 2022.
The South Carolina legislature has said it will meet with Trump to try to convince him that the former president holds the key to the GOP’s future election chances.
“I’m going to try to convince him that we can not get there without you, but you can not keep the Trump movement going without the GOP united,” he said, according to reporters. Politico.
“If we come back in 2022, it’s a confirmation of your policy. But if we lose again in 2022, the story goes that not only did you lose the White House, but that the Republican Party is in a bad place, he added.

Graham has given his view on the crucial role that Trump would play, as the upper house of Congress is expected to acquit Trump for inciting his supporters to storm the US capital on January 6.
While the vote in the Senate is expected to fall short of the two-thirds majority needed to condemn Trump, the former president’s second indictment has created a rift within the GOP between party leaders and other members who dispute how much influence Trump should retain.
Trump has said he wants to remain a key player in GOP politics and that he has threatened primary Republicans who did not support him.
A group of Republicans from previous GOP administrations reportedly discussed the establishment of a new anti-Trump party to the right of center.
The Integrity Party and Center Right Party are, according to Reuters, names considered.
Meanwhile, it is speculated that Trump himself could form his own political party, which according to polls would get the support of many Republicans, although Trump’s team said he had no ties to a “Patriot party” formed. .
However, Sen. Graham suggested that Trump would be most effective for the IDP if his party disputes were healed.
“Trump needs to work with everyone,” he said, “you need to put your best team on the field.
‘When it comes to revenge and following people you do not like, we’ll have a problem. When it comes to putting your best team on the field, we have a good chance of coming back. ‘ Newsweek contacted Trump’s office for comment.
