Lincoln City Councilman has ‘suffered a minor’ stroke after hospitalization and recovery

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Lincoln City Councilman Roy Christensen has had a minor stroke and is in critical condition in hospital, he said in a statement on Friday.

Christensen said the stroke occurred shortly after receiving the first dose of his COVID-19 vaccine, but doctors are unable to link the shot to the stroke or rule out a possible connection.

In a statement, Christensen, who has served on the city council since 2013, said he received his first dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday morning.

He said he started losing his feeling in his arm and leg later that day, and when his condition did not improve by Friday, he went to the emergency room. He is now recovering in hospital and is expected to be released on Saturday.

Below is Christensen’s full statement:

“I feel good and look forward to returning home tomorrow. I received my first dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday morning at the Pinnacle Bank Arena. Later that day, I began to experience a feeling of loss in my left arm and left leg. On Thursday I consulted my doctor and mostly rested at home. By Friday morning, my condition had not improved, and my wife, Ramiel, took me to the emergency room at CHI St. Elizabeth gery. After a number of tests it was determined that I had a small stroke and I was admitted for further observation. I still experience a loss of feeling in my left arm and left leg, even though I have a feeling in my left hand. The doctors told me that they could not positively connect the Pfizer shot with the small stroke or rule out a bandage. Except for the loss of feeling in my left arm and left leg, I feel good. From now on, I expect to be discharged from the hospital on Saturday and resume a regular schedule next week, including attending the city council meeting on Monday, working at my office and campaigning. Your prayers for me and my family are sincerely appreciated. ”
