Lil Nas X Satan shoes recall after Nike lawsuit

MSCHF, the art enterprise that made Lil Nas X’s unauthorized Satan Shoes, must now pay for his sins. The New York Times reports that the company is offering a refund to one of the 666 buyers who want to return the shoes, after Nike filed a lawsuit on March 29, claiming that the shoes, especially with their prominent swoosh logo, falsely associated MSCHF with Nike. The shoes were sold out almost immediately, standing at $ 1,018 apiece, along with the rollout for Lil Nas X’s equally sinful number 1 single “Montero (Call me by your name)”, with the promise that every pair a contains drop of blood. Now the exclusive shoes are on sale for significantly more, and as part of MSCHF’s settlement, Nike has been released from responsibility for issues with shoes that buyers decide to keep.

Respond to the news Thursday night – hours before his birthday, no less – Lil Nas X tweeted, “You keep streaming, call me by your name so I can pay for this damn Nike lawsuit 😩.” MSCHF in turn does not want to disclose the terms of the settlement. A lawyer for the company just said Times MSCHF ‘intended to comment on the absurdity of the collaborative culture applied by some brands, and on the perniciousness of intolerance’, adding that the company believes it has ‘already achieved its artistic goal’. Now only 666 sinners should feel called by a higher purpose to give those shoes back.
