Lightning acquires defender David Savard in trade in multiple teams

TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning acquired defender David Savard in a multi-team trade in which the Lightning surrendered their first round and 2022 third round of 2022 to the Columbus Blue Jackets, and it is the choice of the fourth round in 2021 for Detroit Red Wings, Vice President and General Manager Julien BriseBois announced today. Furthermore, the Lightning acquired Brian Lashoff in Detroit trading. Lashoff stays with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League.

Savard (30) has raced in 40 games with the Blue Jackets this season, scoring a goal and six points with 24 penalty goals. The St. Quebec native Hyacinthe’s one goal of the season was a winner of the match against the Lightning on March 30 at AMALIE Arena. He recorded his 11th career multi-assist game on Feb. 7 against Carolina.

The 6-foot-2, 233-pound defender has appeared in 597 NHL games in his career, all with Columbus over ten seasons and posting 41 goals and 166 points along with a +24 rating and 331 penalty minutes. Savard set career highs for goals (11), assists (25) and points (36) during the 2014-15 season. He reached a career high and finished second in the NHL last season with 163 touchdowns.

Savard was originally drafted by Columbus in the fourth round, 94th overall, at the 2009 NHL draft.
