NASA’s Artemis program aims to land the first woman and next man on the moon by 2024, hoping to pave the way for a lunar location for further space missions – and a new study estimates the cost of living there.
Financial experts from Money, Dot Zinc subsidiary and a credit broker for consumer credit products have released an article entitled “How to Get a Mortgage on the Moon!” March 11 last year. In the very first lunar mortgage guide, calculations calculate that the cost of living at the Moon is about $ 325,067 per month.
The lunar property suggested that it have life-saving features such as industrial-quality air seals, air-conditioning and heating systems, meteor-resistant windows, insulation and power supply – with all these necessities costing a combined cost of $ 40 million (£ 29 million). ).
Money also estimates that the total cost of building a fully functioning home on the moon is about $ 48 million (£ 34,892,500.06), with subsequent homes being built being slightly cheaper.
The mortgage guide also takes into account various factors, such as the average price for properties here on earth and the transportation costs for tools and equipment.

Guide to Lunar Living
Apart from the star cost of living on the moon, Money also gave a guideline on how to live in the new environment. From growing food to generating power, it summarizes the requirements for each aspect of lunar life.
Since the first potential lunar inhabitants will have no energy source, Money recommends the purchase of a small nuclear reactor as an independent power source.
However, a small nuclear reactor is placed at $ 1.3 billion (£ 1 billion). An alternative, however, is the use of solar panels. Although the size and capacity are not specified, it is said that 17 panels would be enough to power one house, which would cost only $ 23,000 (£ 17,000).
As for food, since food delivery is not an option, moon dwellers will have to grow their own food supply. In a household of four people, seven greenhouses are needed to produce the required one ton of food for food. Of course, water is another requirement to ensure growth – the credit broker estimates 5.4 tons of water for vegetation and hygiene annually. The best method for long-term water supply, as previously suggested, is to purify and reuse liquid waste.
