Liberty Utilities asks customers to save energy, at the request of power suppliers in Springfield, Branson

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Three of the largest suppliers of electricity in the Ozarks region are asking customers to save energy if possible due to the limited supply of natural gas amid cold weather.

Liberty Utilities followed suit on Sunday with the request Springfield City Utilities and White River Valley Electric Company. The power suppliers believe that natural gas reached the highest demand during the cold moment. Natural gas resources are freezing in southwest Missouri, leading to limited supply.

“This is an unprecedented weather event that affects not only all of our customers, but also customers of natural gas utilities throughout the Middle East,” said Gary Gibson, General Manager and CEO of City Utilities of Springfield. to keep our customers safe and ensure we do everything in our power during this serious winter event. ”

“Electricity suppliers across the Middle East are seeing unprecedented demand for the power grid due to extreme weather conditions and rising natural gas prices,” White River Valley Electric Company said in a news release.

“We know that saving energy during this time can be uncomfortable, and we apologize for that,” said Tim Wilson, Liberty Vice President, Electric Operations. “We are so grateful to our customers for their help in reducing energy consumption. This will help us to service homes, businesses and critical facilities during these exceptional weather conditions. Our crew is working 24 hours a day to keep our systems safe and working. We will continue to provide updates to our customers during this event. ”

Springfield City Utilities offers the following recommendations to save energy:

  • Turn off your thermostat at least 2 degrees from your normal setting. 68 degrees is the suggested average setting for winter.
  • Limit the use of natural gas fireplaces.
  • Limit the use of plugged in electric space heaters.
  • Turn off the temperature setting of your boiler.
  • Look for other opportunities within your home to reduce the use of electricity and natural gas during this short period of time.

White River Valley Electric Company specifically asks customers to reduce electricity usage during peak hours from 06-10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The company also offers the following tips for Branson customers to reduce electricity:

  • Turn and hold the thermostat 2-3 degrees lower.
  • Reduce the use of main appliances at the same time.
  • Use space heaters sparingly.
  • Sealed around draughty doors and windows
  • Change oven filters.
  • Turn off thermostats on electric water heaters.
  • Turn off lights and unplug small appliances that are not in use.

Liberty Utilities issued a top-notch advice from 6pm Sunday to midnight Tuesday. Customers are asked to limit usage between 06:00 and 10:00 and 16:00 to 19:00

The company offered the following recommendations to save energy:

  • Set thermostats to 65 degrees or as low as comfortable. Customers who are elderly or have medical conditions complicated by the cold should not lower their thermostat.
  • Turn off computers, monitors, chargers, printers, and televisions and turn them off during periods of unused use.
  • Turn off unimportant lights.
  • Postpone all essential energy consumption.
