LG’s space in the smartphone market has been scrapped for years, but next year the company may be able to stop it. That’s right, LG has officially confirmed that they are considering leaving the smartphone market in 2022.
A report earlier this week of The election (since removed) claims that LG Higher Companies informed employees of the possible plans, but LG representatives denied that this was the case. Well, now again a report from The Korea Herald bring it back to the table, and this time LG does not say no.
LG CEO Kwon Bong-seok sent an internal memorandum to employees on Wednesday, saying it was time for the company to take a good look at things and possibly make ‘the best choice’. What is the best choice? Apparently LG is weighing down the downsizing of its smartphone business, pulling it completely out of the market and possibly selling its smartphone business and assets as well.
As competition in the global mobile device market intensifies, it’s time for LG to make a cold judgment and make the best choice. The company is considering all possible measures, including the sale, withdrawal and downsizing of the smartphone business.
Unlike last time, LG has since confirmed that this message is real The edge that nothing has been decided at this stage.
This is honestly no surprise. It is an understatement to say that LG is not succeeding in getting traction in the market. Over the past few years, LG’s midrange and flagship phones have consistently lagged behind competitors such as Samsung and Apple and have been less critically acclaimed than devices from Google and other Android OEMs.
Software support has also been an ongoing issue for LG, as the company was notorious for not updating its Android smartphones on time for years. Due to the evaporating interest of the consumer, the company has achieved very little success in all markets, especially in the United States, where LG phones are not just a vehicle for transportation to customize and sell as they see fit. not.
To put things in perspective, the last time an LG phone was really the version of Samsung, Apple and Google convincingly was the LG G4 released in 2015. There have been some highlights in the time since then, such as LG V60, LG Velvet and even the crazy LG wing, but these efforts were also simply too late.
