Lexington police clarify the situation in the city center after evacuation

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A major disruption in downtown Lexington on New Year’s Eve has been cleared up by police.

Just before 8 p.m., police evacuated a large area, including half a dozen blocks, and several bars.

We had several reports that police were looking at an RV that was parked a lot in W. Short St. and Market stand.

Police said in a tweet that an officer noticed the large RV. A dog of explosives was brought in and it ‘warned’ the vehicle.

The police’s department for dangerous devices responded to the scene. Police say they contacted the driver of the RV and no explosives were found.

‘Public safety is one of my top priorities, and the events in the city center remind us how important this is. In our city, a well-trained, diligent police force protects us, ‘said Mayor Linda Gorton in a statement. “Thank you to our officers.”

We are still working to gather more information.
