As part of its CES 2021 activities, Lenovo has announced a trio of new IdeaPad notebooks: the IdeaPad 5i Pro, IdeaPad 5 Pro and IdeaPad 5G. The latter of these three models is definitely the most niche, as 5G is not yet something the average consumer is probably still looking for on a laptop. Especially with IdeaPad devices in mind, it’s more targeted at mainstream consumers, as opposed to business users.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 5G supports sub-6 GHz networks, but will fall back to 4G speeds where 5G is not available. The IdeaPad 5G is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx 5G SoC with Adreno 680 graphics with up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM. Other specifications include a 1920 × 1080 IPS screen in 1920, 1080, 512 GB PCIe SSD storage and a 51WHr battery which is said to last up to 20 hours when watching video continuously.

The notebook has Dolby Audio speakers on the front, a dual-array microphone, an infrared camera to unlock the notebook with your face. The IdeaPad 5G is also one of the first Lenovo devices to include a new software feature called Show Mode for a PC. This basically makes the notebook an Echo Show-like device. You will be able to use Amazon Alexa to play music, launch apps, control your other smart devices and more. This new feature will be available sometime in the second quarter of 2021 and is expected to reach other new and existing IdeaPad laptops in the future.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 5G does not yet have a release date or price, although we know it will not be sold in the United States. There will also be a 4G / LTE version offered on select markets on the Snapdragon 8c platform.

Now let’s take a quick look at the IdeaPad 5i Pro and IdeaPad 5 Pro. These notebooks will be the first IdeaPad models with a 16:10 aspect ratio, which would provide a better multitasking experience than previous IdeaPad laptops. Both the IdeaPad 5i Pro and IdeaPad 5 Pro are sold in 14- and 16-inch versions and are available in Storm Gray or Cloud Gray colors.

The IdeaPad 5i Pro uses 11th generation Intel Core i7 processors, along with Nvidia MX450 graphics on board. You can get up to 16 GB DDR4 RAM and 1 TB SSD PCIe M.2 storage in these notebooks. The 14-inch version has a 2.8K IPS screen with a refresh rate of 90Hz and 400 net brightness and a 56.5WHr battery. The 16-inch model has a 2.5K IPS screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz and 350 net brightness. It has a 75WHr battery and supports Thunderbolt 4 technology with single cable. The 14-inch version will be sold in Europe in March starting at € 699, while the 16-inch model will have a starting price of € 899.

The 14-inch IdeaPad 5 Pro will use the next-generation AMD Ryzen H-series mobile processors, along with Nvidia MX450 graphics on board. It supports up to 16 GB DDR4 RAM and up to 1 TB SSD PCIe M.2 storage. The 2.8K IPS screen has a refresh rate of 90Hz and 400 net brightness and a 56.5WHr battery. It will go on sale in Europe in March from € 799.

The 16-inch IdeaPad 5 Pro also has the next generation AMD Ryzen H-series mobile processors. Buyers, however, get a choice of graphics chip options, including the upcoming Nvidia GeForce RTX GPUs. You can add up to 32 GB DDR4 RAM and 1 TB SSD PCIe M.2 storage. The 2.5K IPS screen has a high 120Hz refresh rate and brightness of 350 pf only, along with a 75WHr battery. It will be sold in Europe in May with a starting price of € 1,149.99.
