Back in 2015, the news started that Netflix was planning a plan Legend of Zelda live action series. However, as soon as we heard about the series, it was reported that Nintendo had pulled the plug. So what happened? As it turns out, Nintendo was upset about the fact that the program leaked and decided that they still did not want to go ahead – which seems like a strange reason, if everything is taken into account.
Confirmation of why Netflix and Nintendo canceled the live action The legend of Zelda TV series come from Adam Conover (via Collider). Conover spoke during an appearance on The Serf Times podcast about working on another Nintendo property – a claimant Star Fox adjustment. Both, however Star Fox and Legend of Zelda turned off after the word of Zelda leaked to the Wall Street Journal.
“Then, a month later, there were sudden reports that Netflix would no longer do its Legend or Zelda,” Conover said. ‘I was like’ what happened? “And then I heard from my boss that we’re not doing our Star Fox anymore. I was like ‘what happened?’ He was like ‘someone at Netflix leaked the Legend of Zelda thing, they were not supposed to talk about it, Nintendo went crazy … and they pulled everything to the plug, the whole program to customize these things. “
I’m not quite sure why Nintendo would be so crazy about a story leak that they would pull the plug completely, but hey, that’s their privilege. That said, Nintendo has not had the best of luck when it comes to live adaptations of their properties, so maybe they just got cold feet. The legend of Zelda remains a very popular series for Nintendo, and although there was an animated series based on the games offered in 1989, there were no direct adaptations yet. Will Nintendo ever try to adapt Zelda whether it is live action or another medium? There is an animated Super Mario Bros. film that will appear in 2022, and maybe Nintendo is waiting to see how the audience responds to it before continuing with adaptations of other games.
The first Legend of Zelda game was released in 1986 and tells the story of an eleven-year-old boy named Link who is looking for Princess Zelda. Several sequels followed, the most recent version of 2017 being launched The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and 2019s The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, which is a remake of the 1993 game for the Game Boy.
