Learn how to make shortbread TED LASSO cookies

I believe in Ted Lasso. As the title character in the Apple TV + series does, I also want someone to bring me delicious cookies at the beginning of each workday. Well, not cookies. Cookies. Every time Ted shows up for ‘Biscuits with the Boss’ – and Rebecca reacts like a hungry wolf standing over a fresh death – I feel it. I need it. But I do not have to hire the best person in the world to coach my football / soccer team to get my hands on some. One of our favorite YouTube chefs, Andrew Rea from Binging With Babish, has a new video showing how we can make it at home.

And this is great news for Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham, because the biscuits consumed during the filming were not nearly as good as they seemed.

Like Ted Lasso, Andrew Rea cracked the recipe to make delicious crumbly, buttery cookies with shortbread, the same treat the coach brought to his boss every morning. There’s a simple, easy, short version you can try, ideal for making with kids. It only needs salt, butter, granulated sugar and flour. But since Ted’s homemade biscuits are of the best level, you will want to try Rea’s more complex recipe to make something special.

It involves baking with roasted sugar (my new favorite thing in the world) and brown butter. All the other ingredients are standard kitchen prices. But this batch is also topped with demerara sugar, for an extra delicious oemf.

As much as we want to eat it – the person who needs the recipe the most is AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton. The cookies Waddingham ate on the set were not good. In fact, they were terrible. She told Variety that eating it was ‘the greatest play of my life’. Because snacking was on one, it was ‘literally like putting a sponge in your face’.

This is because they call star Jason Sudeikis ‘near cookies’, which is sugar-poor. It does not make for a delicious cookie. But Waddingham said it was necessary so she “did not just expand” during the filming. This is really funny because I was wondering how anyone, even Rebecca, could eat cookies every day and still stay so fit. It turns out you actually can not. You just have to pretend you are eating it. Especially if you shoot multiple shots.

Maybe I do not know that I have to bring buttery cookies to me every morning. But I believe I still want to find out.
