Leaders report 2,376 new COVID-19 cases, 9 deaths

SAN ANTONIO San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Judge Nelson Wolff of Bexar County updated the community on Monday night in their daily information session on the local response to COVID-19.

Nirenberg reported 175,530 total COVID-19 cases and 2,152 total deaths in Bexar County, an increase of 2,376 new cases as of Monday. Nine new deaths were also reported today.

Nirenberg said the daily case contained totally overdue cases from the state, pointing out that the count was essentially a total of two days.

The moving average of 7 days is 1,447.

City officials also reported that 1,171 patients were admitted to the hospital, 399 in the intensive care unit and 244 in ventilators. There are 13% of the beds with staff and 51% of the fans available.

Nirenberg said that the positive percentage for the third consecutive week decreased and on Monday amounted to 11.4%. While this is a positive trend, Nirenberg has urged residents to distance themselves socially and wear a mask to others.

“I want to add that this is probably the worst time to sit back and relax,” Nirenberg said.
