Leaders report 138 new COVID-19 cases, 1 new death

SAN ANTONIO San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar District Judge Nelson Wolff briefed the community on Friday night on the local reaction to COVID-19.

Nirenberg reported 201,411 total COVID-19 cases and 2,996 total deaths in Bexar County, an increase of 138 new cases as of Friday. One new death was reported today.

The rolling average of 7 days is 143.

City officials also reported that 201 patients were admitted to the hospital, 75 to the intensive care unit and 41 to ventilators. There are 12% of the beds with staff and 71% of the fans available.

Nirenberg said 389,049 people received their first dose of COVID-19, and 220,124 were fully vaccinated in Bexar County.

The mayor says Metro Health is expected to update its guidelines on schools next week after the CDC announced that students can now remove 3 feet apart instead of 6 feet.

Officials are urging people to sign up for text warnings against vaccinations to find out when appointments open.
