Law enforcement investigates deadly shooting in Goleta

GOLETA, California – The sheriff of Santa Barbara County is investigating a shooting that took place in the uninformed area of ​​Goleta on Thursday afternoon.

The suspect is still outstanding in the area. The suspect was identified as a man in his 20s. He was last seen wearing white bag blue jeans and a gray shirt. County Sheriff says he is considered armed and dangerous.

The crime was reported Thursday afternoon around 1 p.m. Delegates were sent to the scene of the shooting in the 600 block of Burtis Street.

One person was found dead in the car and another was taken to hospital.

A shelter from Hollister to the bike path between Turnpike and Patterson has been placed. Helicopters fly into the area to notify residents.

A division of Burtis has been closed for investigation.

Law enforcement officers with police dogs are at the scene in Anita Lane and Burtis Street.

Our Newschannel reporter at the scene said there were some students on campus at Hollister Elementary School. There were fewer students than normal due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The principal says all the students were safe.
