Larry King’s estranged wife will dispute his will.
Shawn King, the seventh wife of the famed broadcaster, was still legally married to him when he passed away on January 23, despite his divorce case in August 2019. She said she was surprised to hear that he had secretly updated his will – in a handwritten document submitted shortly after his divorce and which excluded her – and she will fight it in court.
“We had a very waterproof family estate plan,” said Shawn, the mother of the journalist’s sons Chance and Cannon. New York Post‘s page six. ‘It still exists,’ she says of the estate plan she says they put together in 2015, ‘and it’s the legal will. Period. And I totally believe that it will hold, and my lawyers will probably submit an answer by the end of the day. ”
Last week, the news broke that on October 17, 2019, Larry wrote a handwritten amendment to his will – about two months after filing for divorce – and left his $ 2 million estate to his five children.
Shawn told Page Six that she and Larry became good friends again after he filed for divorce and that they chat daily. She said, “It beats me!” to the question why she thinks he wrote the amended will. And “based on the timeline, it just does not make sense.”
She further said that she thinks someone influenced him to draft the amended will but did not want to say who.
And while she will fight for what the newspaper described as a “meager” amount – a $ 2 million piece has been shared all five ways – she said she would fight and say, “That’s the principle.”
Shawn said her two sons, Cannon and Chance, were also unaware of the amended will and were ‘shocked’. They will support her legal battle, she said, adding: “They are not happy about this.”
To complicate the division of the estate, two of Larry’s children mentioned in his 2019 will – Andy and Chiara – both died last year, weeks apart, of various ailments. Larry has another son, Larry Jr.
Shawn said after Larry’s death and told the hospital via FaceTime details of their farewell and told how he liked her and asked her to take care of their sons. She also says that the whole family wore his signature jackets to the funeral service.
“Larry and I, you know, we never finished our divorce,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “In my heart I did not think it was really going to happen and it never happened. We were partners in every way, in the business world, and well, first in our family and then in the business world. But we are a close-knit family. You know, family is the most important thing, and God. ‘
Larry – who has been married seven times to seven women – tells People in 2020 that he would “always take care of his wife”, but that it was just a point where we did not get along. He explained: ‘We have had a big age difference and it is finally taking its toll. It has become a problem. Also, [Shawn] is a very religious Mormon and I am an agnostic atheist, which ultimately causes few problems. We overcame a lot, but eventually it became a ships-in-the-night situation. ‘
