Lance Bass says Colton Underwood is getting a setback from the gay community because he ‘earns money from the experience’ of getting out.
Colton, 29, appeared in public on Good Morning America on Wednesday and was filmed on a Netflix reality show about his life as a gay man.
Lance, who came out as gay in 2006, spoke this week about The Bachelor star in the latest episode of The Ben & Ashley I.

On why he thinks Colton is getting so much backlash online after coming out, the former NSYNC singer explained: ‘This gay community is very diverse, but we can also be very fickle.
“He will definitely get a lot of backlash from the community first. Not the majority, but there is a small percentage of the community who just do not like the fact that he came out this way and that he earns money for the experience. ‘
He went on to say, ‘They do not think he deserves this attention, and that’s one of the reasons, and that’s what I experienced when I came out … when you first came out, most people had no idea the LGBT community.

“They do not know what the issues are, because they are so deliberately separated from each other. So when someone comes out as a public figure, so many people immediately go, “It’s too late.” They do not like to support it because they do not yet feel that you know what you are talking about.
“But I do not think Colton is trying to lead the charge to be the spokesperson for the LGBTQ community.” Lance, 41, added.
The singer said he could connect with Colton because ‘90% of my fans were women, and they all thought I was straight. I earn my money from women and sing about love and use the market. So I came out, it was scary … because now everyone is going to see me as a liar … ‘
Meanwhile, Colton has no immediate plans to date after coming out as gay.

She also revealed that she is taking a week off to post on her YouTube channel.
Meanwhile, Colton’s ex, Cassie Randolph (25) – whom he met during and after the season in The Bachelor – broke her silence after his revelation about his sexuality. She accused him of harassing her and filed a restraining order against him after their split last year
After their split, Cassie filed court documents in which Colton was accused of stalking her, harassing her and planting a tracking device in her car.
Cassie later dropped the restriction and Colton did not address the controversy directly in his GMA interview, but admitted he made mistakes.
He said: ‘I would just be very sorry. ‘I’m sorry for the pain and emotional tension I caused. I wish it would not happen the way it did. I wish I was brave enough to correct myself before breaking someone else. ‘
