Lamar Jackson, Ravens to investigate off-season expansion

Lamar Jackson scored his first win in a playoff game a week ago. He’s going for his second Saturday night against the Bills.

He could sign his second contract in the coming months.

The Ravens are open to a major overtime for their star quarterback, and the two parties are expected to explore the option in the spring or early summer, reports NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. First, the team will get the fifth-year option on its rookie deal.

Do you remember that Jackson is without an agent and still represents himself, which could provide an interesting ripple for the negotiations. He was dealing with an organization that was always open to early transactions if it benefited both parties, Rapoport noted.

The third year QB far surpassed the one he was selected with after Baltimore selected him with the 32nd overall pick of the 2018 draft. After fueling the team’s turnaround and playoff game in his first season, he claims MVP honors in 2019. His 2020 campaign was not as statistically spectacular, yet he was still able to reach the first 1000 years, chasing for the second consecutive year, an NFL record, and leads the Ravens back to the playoffs.

They tackle Buffalo at 20:15 ET.
