Los Angeles County residents receiving the COVID-19 vaccine are being offered a digital record of their vaccination that they can store in their Apple Wallet, according to Bloomberg.
The province is teaming up with software company Healthvana to offer the vaccination record to the Wallet app on the iPhone or competing Google platform, as a way to remind patients receiving the first dose of the vaccine weeks later for their second dose.

The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine requires a second dose to be administered 21 days apart, whereas the second dose of Moderna is administered 28 days from the first dose.
“We are really worried. “We really want people to come back for the second dose,” Claire Jarashow, director of disease control against vaccines at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, told Bloomberg.
“We simply do not have the ability to submit hundreds of medical record requests to find people’s first doses and when to get their second,” she told the news agency.
The technology can also be a way for people to prove that they have been vaccinated against the virus.
Healthvana is reportedly in talks about applying the technology to employers, universities and concert venues. Healthvana CEO Ramin Bastani told Bloomberg the record could be useful to ‘prove to airlines, to prove to schools, to prove to whoever needs it’, that someone actually got the chance .
Bastani said he believes other similar services will emerge as more people receive the vaccine.
“It’s not going to be like one credit card you can use in the US,” he told Bloomberg. “Sometimes you can pay cash, sometimes you have Apple Wallet.”
The company in Los Angeles began working with the county earlier this year to deliver coronavirus test results to patients in the area.
