The Inter-American Court of Human Rights (Corte IDH) has rescinded these allegorical allegations of the Colombian State in the case of the periodist Jineth Bedoya, who was seconded, tortured and violated by paramilitaries in the year 2000 when a model was carried out. Monday, Colombia, has withdrawn from the virtual public hearing and opted to reject the magistrates charged with determining its liability in the context of its international obligations with the periodicals.

The tribunal resolves to declare the confiscation of five juices, as well as the failure to comply with all the proceedings and to exclude the international clerks from dealing with representatives of the Colombian State. También also declared that the Corte IDH – with its magistrates – will continue with the notice of the case “has its conclusion”.

The initiation of the hearing was received with expectation, but has been suspended in spite of the action without precedents of Colombia, which alleges that the charges are prejudicial and necessary for juvenile delinquency. The Foundation for the Freedom of the Press (FLIP), which supports the case, considers that “the action of the State demonstrates the decision against the victims of sexual violence in the armed conflict and no worthy spaces to access justice”, and that The action is part of a strategy to “delegate to the IDH Court” and results in a new intention to silence Jineth Bedoya.

“El Gobierno de Iván Duque debería avergonzarse de lo que hizo ante la Corte IDH en el caseo Jineth Bedoya”, reaction José Miguel Vivanco, director of Human Rights Watch para las Américas. “I’ll be 25 years old litigating the Corte IDH and it’s insolent, we’re surprised that the State of Colombia has the government that is really authoritarian like the Governor of Fujimori in Peru, the Ortega in Nicaragua, the Maduro in Venezuela” , le dijo al periódico El Tiempo Viviana Krsticevic, Bedoya’s Advocate and Director of the Center for Justice and International Law (CEJIL).

Before the resolution was passed, Camilo Gómez, director of the National Agency for Legal Defense of the State, issued a card inviting Jineth Bedoya to “send us a dialogue and seek an amicable solution”. In its response, Bedoya, accompanied by FLIP and CEJIL, signaled that the publication of this “private communication, by means of various social speeches, constitutes an act of hospitality and malicious litigation, from which point of view responds to the solemnity and the dignity of the process ”.

The sub-editor of the periodical El Tiempo has been looking for justice for 20 years and on the truck has led the campaign No time to call, with the proposal that the victims be denounced to their aggressors, has been converted into one of the principal voices against sexual violence in Latin America. When was the periodical of The Spectator A massacre, torture and massacre by paramilitaries took place on May 25, 2000, while an investigation was carried out into the La Modelo cell in Bogotá.
