Kyle Rittenhouse: William Kelly, police officer, fired after reports of donation to Wisconsin shooter

Norfolk City manager Chip Filer fired Lieutenant William Kelly on Tuesday on the recommendation of Norfolk Police Chief Larry D. Boone, according to a statement from the city on Tuesday.

“I have reviewed the results of the internal investigation involving Lieutenant William Kelly. Chief Larry Boone and I have concluded that Lt. Kelly’s actions are in breach of city and departmental policies. “trust between the Norfolk Police Department and those who are The city of Norfolk has a standard of conduct for all employees, and we will hold staff accountable,” Filer said in the statement.

Kelly was initially placed on administrative duty after reports were made on April 16, 2021, the statement said. Under the grievance procedure and applicable law in the City of Norfolk, Kelly now has the right to appeal against his dismissal.

“We do not want the perceptions of any officer to undermine the relationship between the Norfolk Police Station and the community,” Boone said. “I urge the community to support the Norfolk Police Department officers, as in the past, knowing that at this moment they continue to serve and protect them.”

CNN tried to reach out to Kelly and the Norfolk Police Union for comment.

Rittenhouse, 18, is accused of shooting the men during protests over Jacob Blake’s fatal shooting in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He pleaded not guilty, and his lawyers insisted he acted in self-defense.

He was released from custody in November after his lawyer Lin Wood posted the $ 2 million bail, according to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department.

Wood said in a tweet that Mike Lindell, CEO of My Pillow, Inc., and others helped raise the necessary funds for Rittenhouse.

“God bless EVERYONE who donated to help #FightBack raise the required $ 2 million cash bail. Special thanks to actor Ricky Schroder @ rickyshroder1 and Mike Lindell @realMikeLindell for putting us over the head “Kyle is SAFE. Thank you to EVERYONE who helped this boy,” read the tweet.

Rittenhouse was arrested on January 5, and both prosecutors and defenders agreed to hold his trial on charges that he killed Anthony M. Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum and wounded Gaige Grosskreutz from March to November 1.

“There are a number of outstanding issues that are being discovered, some DNA tests and other issues that need to be resolved,” Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger said last month.
