Kyle Long says Bears’ start of QB in 2021 will be a familiar sight

So much for an exciting outdoor season clinched by a new starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears. That is not going to happen, according to former Bears attacking linebacker Kyle Long.

Long gave this exciting look on Wednesday about what is likely to happen in the ever-haunting story of Chicago’s pursuit of a quarterback.

“I think they will not be able to do what they want to do in the draft in the quarterback position,” Long said of the Bears. ‘I think we’ll go see Nick Foles with a full season behind him as the starting quarterback. I naturally think Mitch is going elsewhere. ”

Foles with a full season behind him do not suddenly make him a good starting quarterback. That doesn’t even make him an average starting quarterback. It makes him the same quarterback he has always been: a traveler who has not worked well for more than a season or two.

What Long does not recognize in his prediction of Foles is the urgency with which Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy work. They can not crumble another season of Foles like an unathletic cards in the bag. They need a solution; a legal upgrade. And Pace will do everything in his power to get it done, even if it means an overpayment for a player like Derek Carr in the commercial market or throwing the dice on Jameis Winston in free agency.

At this point, both players would give the Bears a better chance of winning ten or more games in 2021. And it will take a season before Pace and Nagy earn another year in Chicago.
