Ky. COVID-19 cases reach 400K; positivity rate drops below 6%

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) – Governor Andy Beshear has provided an update on COVID-19 issues.

Governor Beshear on Wednesday reported 1,306 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the state to 400,307 cases. The governor says the state sees a positive rate of 5.90 percent, the lowest since October 27. As of Wednesday’s new cases, 183 children are under 18 or younger.

51 COVID-19 deaths were reported on Wednesday, bringing the state to 4,527.

As of Wednesday, 883 people are being admitted to hospital for COVID-19 reasons, 228 in the ICU and 112 in ventilators. At least 47,225 Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.

“We are getting these vaccines out faster than the federal government can offer them, so there is a lot of hope to move in in the future,” Gov. Beshear said. “We are going to defeat this virus this year, but until then we must protect each other.”
