Kuo: Apple’s mixed-reality headphones with 15 camera modules and ‘innovative biometrics’

Earlier this week, trusted technology analyst Ming-Chi Kuo brought more information about Apple’s plans for its new AR / VR devices. Kuo now said in a new research note released by 9to5Mac that Apple’s rumored mixed-reality headset will include 15 camera modules, enabling advanced AR and ‘innovative biometrics’.

According to Kuo, Apple is developing its mixed-reality headset with 15 camera modules. Of these modules, eight will be dedicated to augmented reality video experiences. One specific module will observe the environment to place objects on the scene, and six modules will enable ‘innovative biometrics’, as the analyst calls it.

The components are supplied by Largan Precision, a Taiwanese company operating as a provider of camera lens modules for smartphones, tablets and other devices. Kuo expects the company to benefit significantly from Apple’s upcoming headset.

We have repeated several times in our previous reports that Largan still faces the structural risk of the Huawei smartphone’s decline in market share due to the US ban, but that Largan still has long-term investment value as the lens upgrade cycle and new application trends remain in place. In terms of short- to medium-term trends, we believe the following potential benefits of Largan are worthy of investors’ attention, including the adoption of 15 camera modules from Apple MR / AR headsets.

In his previous report, Ming-Chi Kuo reinforces that in 2022, Apple will release a new ‘helmet-type’ headset with Micro-OLED screens and augmented and virtual reality features. The final price for customers is expected to be around $ 1,000. Kuo’s research also mentions that Apple is still working on new AR glasses, but it is unlikely to be launched before 2025.
