Kuo: Apple releases AirTags, first AR device, new AirPods and more in 2021

Actual Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is about to release a comprehensive new report that can be expected from Apple today in 2021. The analyst says Apple will release its first augmented reality device in 2021, along with AirTag article trackers and more.

AirTags has been rumored for over a year now, and despite reports suggesting it should be released, Apple has kept quiet about the fate of the accessory. Nevertheless, Kuo doubles the existence of AirTags in today’s report, which indicates that the long-awaited article track will be released in 2021.

For those unfamiliar, AirTags is expected to be Apple’s competition for tile trackers. Users can connect an AirTag tracker to something like a backpack and locate it in the Find My app on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Elsewhere, Kuo claims that in 2021 Apple will release some kind of augmented reality device. The details here are unclear, but Kuo said earlier that Apple’s first-generation AR glasses will be heavily dependent on the iPhone.

Kuo has reported in the past that the AR glasses will essentially only serve as a display with the actual computer, versioning, internet connection and location services coming out of the iPhone in the user’s pocket.

As for the rest of Apple’s product range, Kuo says Apple will continue the transition to Apple Silicon in the Mac series in 2021. They will also undertake a transition to mini-LED screens in the iPad Pro and Mac series. The analyst earlier said that in 2021 Apple will release redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models in 2021, both with a mini-LED technology and Apple Silicon inside.

On the iPad side, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is expected to be the first iPad to make the change to mini-LED, with reports suggesting it could be announced sometime in the first quarter of 2021.

Kuo also confirms that new AirPods are on the way in 2021. The rumored AirPods Pro Lite will replace the non-Pro AirPods in Apple’s range. They have a design that is similar to or identical to the current AirPods Pro, which means they are inside-ear and are likely to contain different earbud sizes in the box.
