Kroger mistakenly gave empty shots instead of COVID-19 vaccine at Midlothian store

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. Several empty shots were mistakenly handed out in a Central Virginia Kroger to people who thought they were getting a COVID-19 vaccine.

The CBS 6 Problem Solvers asked a spokesperson about a bug reported in Midlothian on 14101 Midlothian Turnpike.

Allison McGee, the manager of Kroger Mid-Atlantic, said one of Kroger’s “The Little Clinic” teams administered empty shots instead of the COVID-19 vaccine as an ‘honest mistake’.

Earlier in the day, McGee said salt shots were being administered instead of the vaccine, but officials later clarified that “after a thorough investigation” they heard “customers are being injected with empty syringes.”

“This was immediately addressed with the TLC team and all vaccinations were retrained and reminded of our current vaccination policy,” McGee said.

Kroger did not explain exactly how many people were affected, but told CBS 6 it is a ‘small number of individuals’.

“All affected customers have been contacted and have now received the COVID-19 vaccine,” McGee said in a statement. “We apologize for the inconvenience and the inconvenience caused to these customers.”

WTVR CBS 6 asked Kroger how an error like this happened, but we got no answer to the question.
