Konami to close all production divisions

In response to a rapidly changing market, video game giant Konami will close all three production divisions in an effort to restructure.

Konami will officially dissolve all three of its production divisions.

The digital entertainment company announced via its website that Konami would dissolve all production divisions “in response to the fast-paced market around us” in an effort to restructure the company. As mentioned in the report, it includes production divisions 1, 2 and 3. It will take place on 1 February 2021.

The announcement also mentioned structural and personnel changes and included the appointment of Hideki Hayakawa as chief operating officer, Shoji Dewa as senior executive officer and Koji Kobayashi as chief executive officer. All persons will start their new roles in the business from February. Certain members of the decomposed production divisions will be moved to general production and product support, but no other information regarding these changes has been given.

The video game giant, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019, has classic titles such as Metal gear, Castlevania and Quiet hill. Recently, the company has selected titles from the Metal gear and Quiet hill series on a computer, as well as a Konami Collector Series: Castlevania en Contra, also for computers. However, the company has been particularly absent from the major games over the past few years, killing many of its flagship franchises, and regularly reloading the above-mentioned classic titles.

No other information regarding the company’s restructuring has been released at this time.
