A change has been made in the series for Sunday’s WWE Championship extermination chamber match.

Kofi Kingston has been added to the WWE title Elimination Chamber contest, replacing The Miz. Drew McIntyre will defend his WWE Championship against Kingston, Sheamus, Randy Orton, AJ Styles and Jeff Hardy against Sunday’s payout room.

The Miz, who holds the purse in the bank, announced on Raw tonight that he was removing himself from the extinction chamber match. The Miz wanted John Morrison to take his place, but Kingston approached WWE authority Adam Pearce, saying he hoped Pearce would not take Miz’s proposal seriously. Pearce made a match to decide who would replace Miz.

Kingston defeated Miz to take his place in the Elimination Chamber match. If Miz had won, Morrison would have added to the game sooner.

McIntyre was the guest on a Miz TV segment on Raw earlier tonight. It ended with McIntyre hitting Miz in the head and throwing Miz’s Money in the briefcase to the stage. Miz then announced that he wanted to remove himself from the extinction chamber match, saying the money bag in the bank meant he was not under the same pressure as McIntyre. Miz said there are so many things that could go wrong for the participants in the eradication room, but he only needs one thing to go right.

Miz said – whether he pays his briefcase into the Elimination Chamber or not – he wants everyone to take notice of the WWE Championship or the Universal Championship. Kevin Owens, Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, Jey Uso, Sami Zayn and Baron Corbin will also face a thinning room on Sunday, where the winner will challenge for the Roman Reigns’ Universal Championship later that evening.

An elimination match was part of Kingston’s path to winning the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35 in 2019. Kingston lasted until the end of that year’s WWE Championship Extermination Room match before being defeated by Daniel Bryan. Kingston won the title of Bryan on WrestleMania.

Kingston returned to Raw last week after being out of action for more than a month due to a jaw injury.
