Rep. Adam Kinzinger has released a letter that he says was sent to him by nearly a dozen family members, avoiding him over his vote to accuse former President Donald Trump for the second time.
Kinzinger (R-Ill.) Provided the letter to the New York Times, which published it Monday. It was dated Friday, January 8, and written by Karen Otto, a cousin of the Illinois legislature.
‘Oh my, what a disappointment you are to us and to God! We were once so proud of your achievements! Instead, you oppose your Christian heads [sic] and joins the ‘devil’s army’, ‘Otto wrote at the beginning of the correspondence, signed by ten other family members.
‘We thought you were’ smart ‘enough to see so many brainwashed’ so-called good people ‘on the left, including yourself and many other GOP members. You even fell for their socialism [sic] ideal, ”she goes on to call his decisions,“ So, so, sad! ”
Otto then defends the former commander – in – chief’s response to his loss of election and wrote to the Illinois congressman: ‘President Trump is not perfect, but you or none of us are for it! It is not for us to judge or be judged! But he is a Christian! ‘
Otto turned her attention to Kinzinger and wrote: ‘It is now the most embarrassing for us that our family is yours. You have embarrassed the Kinzinger family name! We do not judge you. This letter is our opinion of you! ‘
‘Oh, by the way, congratulations on your fundraiser. We are sure there are many other good GOP and Christian supporters, ”she continued.
The Post could not confirm the authenticity of the letter.
Reps for Kinzinger could not be immediately reached for comment by The Post, and neither could Otto.
Kinzinger was one of only three Republicans who voted to convict and rep. The former president in his second indictment. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) To be deprived of her committee assignments.
Trump was eventually acquitted in a 57-43 Senate vote.
The six-time House Republican never heated up the GOP president during his tenure, and regularly criticized the commander-in-chief for his rhetoric, though he usually did not deviate from critical party issues.
Otto reached out to The Times for an interview and said she paid $ 7 to send the letter to her political cousin’s father to make sure the congressman would see it.
The effort worked, and Kinzinger saw the letter. According to the newspaper, she also sent copies to Republicans in Illinois.
“I wanted Adam to be avoided,” she said when she reached the outlet.
The IDP legislature, in turn, says its family members are suffering from ‘brainwashing’ of conservative churches they attend, which they say has led them astray.
Kinzinger’s family was not the only group that the GOP legislature rejected after his accusation.
The Republican House was censored earlier this month by the LaSalle County Republican Central Committee, which represents its home district.
The censorship was largely symbolic and did not threaten Kinzinger’s current hold on the seat.
What it can talk about is whether he can retain Republican support with the state and local party.
