King Abdullah II’s family member, former assistant, arrested in alleged coup

The former crown prince of Jordan has been asked to stop some movements and activities “, the country’s top general said on Saturday when other members of the royal family were arrested, allegedly a coup against King Abdullah II of destroyed the land.

Army Chief of Staff General Yousef Huneiti has denied reports that Prince Hamzah bin Hussein, 41, the king’s half-brother, was arrested along with nearly 20 others for “security reasons”.

However, the prince was asked to stay in his palace in Amman and not use social media.

Huneti says an investigation is still ongoing and the results will be announced in a transparent and clear form.

Among those arrested were Sharif Hassan Ben Zaid, a member of the royal family, and American-educated Bassem Awadallah, a longtime confidant of the king, served as planning and finance minister.

“No one is above the law and Jordan’s safety and stability are above all,” Huneiti told the official Petra news agency.

The details of the plot are sparse, but arrests of top officials and royal family members are rare in Jordan, a major US ally built between Israel, the Palestinian territories, Syria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.

About 3,000 troops were stationed at the Muwaffaq Salti air base, an important scene for the fight against ISIS. The US provides about $ 425 million annually in military aid to Jordan.
