Kim says North Korean efforts will focus on ‘getting US’ to their knees’

The country’s state media (KCNA) reported on Saturday that Kim made the remarks while addressing the 8th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea, according to NBC News. The leader apparently spoke for nine hours.

“Our external political activities must focus on our arch-enemy and the fundamental obstacle to our revolutionary development, the United States,” Kim told NBC. “The effort will focus on overpowering them and bringing them to their knees,” he added.

Kim also threatened to expand the country’s nuclear arsenal.

Kim noted that no matter who is in the White House, “the true nature of the US and its fundamental policy towards North Korea never changes.”

Kim apparently listed several weapon systems under development, The Associated Press reported with reference to KNCA, such as multi-nuclear-headed missiles, underwater nuclear missiles and long-range solid-fuel missiles. However, it is unclear how extensive North Korea’s weapons systems are.

Trump has indicated his friendship with the dictator in the past, and the two have held several meetings. However, relations between Trump and the North Korean leader have recently cooled.
