Kim Jong Un’s wife Ri Sol Ju appears in public for the first time in a year

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s wife appeared on Wednesday for the first time in more than a year during a concert that is one of the biggest holidays in the country.

Ri Sol Ju and her husband were seen in photos published by the state media, sitting side by side and smiling at the Mansudae Art Theater in the capital of Pyongyang.

The occasion commemorates the birthday of Kim’s deceased father and former leader Kim Jong Il.

Although the first lady of the Hermit Kingdom Kim (36) regularly accompanied her to major public events, she has been out of the spotlight since January last year when she attended an event for the New Year holidays.

Her absence from the public eye has sparked speculation about her health and rumors that she may be pregnant.

South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) told lawmakers on Tuesday that Ri apparently withheld from outside events to ward off the coronavirus.

Ri, who is believed to be in her mid – 30s, ‘played well’ with the couple’s three children, the NIS said.

No one in the new images of the couple – released by the official ruling newspaper of the Worker’s Party, Rodong Sinmun, wore masks or maintained social distancing measures.

The newspaper also reported that Kim visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, where the embalmed bodies of his father and grandfather are housed, to lay wreaths for the holiday, the day of the shining star.
