In the past year, a variety of shortages have arisen as a result of the pandemic. Items ranging from toilet paper to aluminum cans all saw short (or not-so-short) periods where demand exceeded supply.

As previously reported by Fox News, ketchup is the latest product experiencing supply difficulties.

Prices for ketchup packets have risen by 13% since January 2020, according to data from Plate IQ, a restaurant industry technology platform, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. A shortage of America’s favorite spices is the latest to hit the food service industry amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Since the pandemic began, shared items (such as ketchup bottles) have largely been removed from restaurants. Instead, one-off items took their place, meaning that demand for tomato sauce packets increased significantly.

As is often the case, it seems that some people are trying to take advantage of the situation. Although it usually turns out to be worthless (since many restaurants simply give it away), your complete list of tomato soup has appeared on eBay.

The lists vary in quantity, but many 50 ketchup packets were recently sold for $ 9.99. Another list for 100 packs that sell for $ 11.99.

Fox News previously reported that Taco Bell sauce packets are enjoying an unprecedented demand on eBay, with some listings asking for significant amounts of money. Many of the offers sell large quantities of sauce packets (which usually contain between 50 and 100 packets), but some offer only single packets at tight prices.
