Kentucky Basketball: BJ Boston thinks refs gave Arkansas Razorbacks the game

Kentucky has had a terrible season. One of the worst in literally 100 years.

But luck was not entirely on their side either.

The Cats had the lead in second place in so many of their 13 defeats. For whatever reason, the ball often did not bring to their side, resulting in a historically bad season.

Another area of misfortune was the whistle. Or a lack of the heartbreaking 81-80 loss to the Razorbacks in the UK on Tuesday night.

While Kentucky was three points behind just under two minutes before the game, Arkansas forward Jaylin Williams drove on the paint on Devin Askew. Instead of mentioning a trip, referee Williams rather rewarded with a trip to the line.

Is he polluted? Maybe, but you can see for yourself that steps were taken far before contact was made. Calipari was apprehensive that walking is not mentioned.

ESPN commentator Jimmy Dykes was not a fan of the call and even mentions that Williams may have taken four steps.

It goes without saying that one call could change the outcome of the match, as it was a one-point loss.

What made the matter worse was the ‘mistake’ that Jacob Toppin made after Kentucky took an 80-79 lead in the final seconds. It looked like he was getting the ball, but the foul was called when Jalen Tate hit two free throws to win the game.

BJ Boston probably said the best thing about the call.

Again, if a small thing goes on here or two in the UK, they might have a significantly better record.

Instead – Kentucky is now tainted with an awful record of 5-13, leaving the Big Blue Nation a frustrated version of always. The loss Saturday against Tennessee was especially discouraging because of how well the guys performed for 30 minutes.

Tonight it looks like the UK had enough in the tank to steal a win in Rupp Arena, but again, it just did not happen.

Despite questionable calls, this team could not take advantage of late opportunities.

It felt like it would be tonight that Calipari’s group finally finished one.

Maybe next time?
