Kenosha bar shooting leaves 3 dead, 2 injured at Somers House behind; suspect not in custody, Wisconsin officials say

KENOSHA, WIS (WLS) – Three men were killed early Sunday morning in a shooting at a bar in Kenosha County, Wisconsin.

The shooting, according to officials, took place around 12:42 a.m. at Somers House, a bar in the Village of Somers.

At least two other people were transported to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.

“There is a possibility that one or two, or even more, had minor injuries, or other injuries,” sheriff David Beth said in the Kenosha Sheros Department.

Two of the victims died at the scene. The third victim fled with other people in a car, but later died on the way to a hospital.

The sheriff said the person in charge was told to leave the bar, and then returned to go on the shooting.

‘The next thing you know, I hear a bunch of shots are going to go off. [I] get up, run out and look out the window. Just see people running in all directions from the bar, ‘says Peter Ploskee, a resident near the bar.

According to Kenosha, the shooter, described as a six-foot-tall man in a light hooded sweatshirt, is still at large.

“I did not see anyone. Like I said, when I looked out the window, it was just chaos. People are running in every possible direction, so you know, who’s who? Is it the man? Is it the man? “People are just running, people are shouting,” said Ploskee.

Kenosha officials believe the incident was targeted and isolated and said they do not believe there is currently a threat to the community.

“The suspect is still at large. Suspect or suspects, we really do not know at this time,” said Sheriff David Beth.

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers has issued a statement on the shooting.

“My heart breaks for Kenosha this morning following a shooting that took three lives and injured at least two others. I want to thank the first responders who responded quickly and are still investigating those involved in this senseless tragedy, “Government Evers said. “Kathy and I join the Wisconsinites in hoping and praying that the injured will recover from their injuries. We think of the families and loved ones affected and the entire Kenosha community as they mourn and struggle with another tragic incident of gun violence. “

Officials said they were possibly looking for several people and several weapons. No guns were recovered at the scene, but said according to the sheriff, a rifle or handguns could be used.

The bar is known as a gathering place for the Carthage College community. According to the college’s website, the campus was closed for a while on Sunday morning, but the college received a message from law enforcement at 6:20 a.m. that the lockout could be lifted.

Sheridan Road was closed near the scene, and officials said the area should be avoided, so the Kenosha sheriff’s department is continuing with the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information regarding the incident can contact the Kenosha County Sheriff at 262-605-5100 or anonymously contact the Kenosha County Crime Stoppers at 262-656-7333.
