Ken Langone: Trump-backed billionaire says Republicans betrayed America

Langone, who voted for Trump in 2016 and gave him credit for improving the economy, said the president had ‘exhausted everything’ when he wanted to reverse the outcome of the 2020 election. “Biden is the president,” Langone said on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”

“Last Wednesday was a disgrace and should never have happened in this country. If it does not break every American’s heart, something is wrong,” Langone said, referring to the siege of the Capitol. “It breaks my heart. I did not sign up for it.”

The billionaire said he will focus on supporting Biden in any way he can.

“I’m going to do everything from day one to make sure I do my part to make Joe Biden the most successful president in the country’s history,” he said. “If he’s a good, successful president, we’ll all win.”

Langone said the country was facing ‘major problems’, citing the pandemic, rising debt, crumbling infrastructure and an underfunded public school system.

In a CNN interview shortly before the 2016 election, Langone said that support for Trump’s candidacy “is not about Trump.”

“It is the American people who are using Trump as a sign to express their anger and disgust at the system,” he said.

The businessman’s frustration underscores a broader message: Corporate America is breaking out with Trump. In early January, more than 170 business leaders signed a letter urging Congress to accept Biden’s victory.
Some of America’s largest companies are striking donations to Republican lawmakers who objected to the votes of the Electoral College. Other businesses have stopped making all political donations.
