Kelli Ward rejects request for GOP race audit in Arizona

The president of the Republican Republic of Arizona, Kelli Ward, last week turned down requests for an audit of the party’s election, including for her own race for the party’s chairman.

During a radio interview At the Conservative circus with James T. Harris on Friday, Ward dealt with criticism of the way the party handled its January 23 election.

“There is no procedure, process, rule that makes it possible,” Ward said. “And you certainly do not allow a challenger who has lost an election to claim something to which they have no right, and we have no responsibility to provide.”

Ward was scrutinized this week over allegations of fraud in her election as party chairman.

Sergio Arellano, who nailed Ward with 42 votes, requested an audit of all party elections after Sandra Dowling was wrongly declared the winner of a member in the broad position for Congress District 8.

Ward confirmed that the mistake was made, but also said that Dowling was contacted immediately about the mistake and that the real winner had been announced. She said the only people who asked for the audit were people who worked for Arellano’s campaign.

“The only people who have asked for an audit – which do not exist in our process, our ordinances, laws or Robert’s rules – are Sergio and the people who work for his campaign,” Ward said.

“We do not have the structure to conduct an audit, but we welcome their efforts to make our election bigger,” she said.

Ward also accused the media of telling the story that they were trying to “do something that just doesn’t exist.”
