Kellen Winslow II, former NFL star, gets 14 years in prison for rape

Former NFL star Kellen Winslow II was sentenced Wednesday to 14 years in prison as part of a plea deal for a multitude of sexual offenses against five women in Southern California.

The 14-year sentence was the maximum allowed under the agreement. Winslow was convicted of violent rape, rape of an unconscious person, assault with intent to commit rape, indecent exposure and obscene conduct in public. One of the women was homeless.

Winslow, 37, appeared via a video conference in San Diego Superior Court in Vista and declined to make a statement, saying his lawyers advised him not to speak.

“In the future, I plan to tell my story,” he said.

Judge Blaine Bowman, high court in San Diego, called Winslow a ‘sexual predator’ who bred women who were particularly vulnerable.

“The vulnerability of the victims was no coincidence. It was the kind of victim you sought out yourself because you thought they might not report the crime” or “would not be credible by the jurors,” Bowman said. said.

Four women made statements and described the suffering thereafter.

“It affects my life every day and every night,” said one woman. “I never feel safe inside or out. You’ve done so much damage in my life.”

Winslow’s lawyers said their client, Hall of Fame son Kellen Winslow, was suffering from a traumatic brain injury due to his football game and a car accident that ended his career.

Winslow was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2004 and has also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New York Jets and New England Patriots during his career.

Formerly one of the highest paid players in his position who last played in the NFL in 2013, Winslow has been convicted of raping a homeless woman in Encinitas. Jurors also found him guilty of two offenses – indecent exposure and a heinous act in public – involving two other women. The jury did not agree on other charges, including the alleged rape of the lifter and the rape of the unconscious 17-year-old girl in 2003 when he was 19 years old.
