On a recent episode of the Chanel CONNECT In the podcast, Knightley explained why her attitude toward filming sex scenes has changed throughout her career, and why she will no longer film it if directed by men.

‘I do not have an absolute ban [on filming sex scenes, but I kind of do with men,” Knightley explained. “It’s partly vanity and also it’s the male gaze.”

“If I was making a story that was about that journey of motherhood and body [acceptance] I feel like, I’m sorry, but it should be with a [woman] filmmaker. ‘

“I do not want it to be the horrible sex scenes where everyone is excited and everyone is grunting,” Knightley continues. “I’m not interested in that.”

But Knightley also explained that there are situations in which she would still film sex scenes. “When I say that, there are times when I go, ‘Yeah, I totally see where this sex would be really good in this movie, and you really just need someone to look hot.'”

Knightley’s latest film, Misconduct, came out last year. This is a comedy drama about the Women’s Liberation Movement in the 1970s in London, and I’m looking forward to watching it!
