‘I got the feeling she’s nervous’: Kate Winslet reveals that she hid in a trunk to support her Mare or Easttown co-star Angourie Rice (20) in a sex scene

Kate Winslet has revealed that she hid in the trunk of a car to help and coach her younger co-star through a sex scene.

The 45-year-old actress has voluntarily taken on the role of intimacy coordinator on the set of the upcoming HBO series Mare of Easttown to support her daughter Angourie Rice (20).

In a conversation with Samira Ahmed on the podcast How I Found My Voice, Kate tells how no intimacy coordinator was hired for the scene because the characters were dressed throughout.

She said: ‘Because there were no clothes coming down the scene, they did not consider bringing in an intimacy coordinator.

‘And I just got the feeling she was nervous. So I said to her, ‘I will act for this, I will stay, I will not leave the set.’

“She said, ‘Thank God Kate, thank you very much. ‘And finally I’m sitting in the car. Eventually I was in the trunk of the car.

I knew it would make them feel better to have that person who would be able to raise his hand and say, ‘Actually, we have to cut, does everyone feel good? ‘

“Sometimes directors don’t feel comfortable communicating with actors about intimate scenes, even if it’s just kissing.”

In the limited series, in which Julianne Nicholson and Evan Peters also star, Kate plays as a detective from Pennsylvania investigating a local murder.

Kate also revealed that she and co-star Amoirite, Saoirse Ronan, did not have an intimacy coordinator for their love scenes in the film.

She said: ‘It’s interesting that we did not have it on Ammonite, and I think it’s partly because it was 2019 at the time we made the film. Intimacy coordinators have only become one thing; filmstelle. ‘

Kate explained: 'I just got the feeling she's nervous. Then I said to her:

‘Ammonite was truly a very low-budget film, we did not have a stunt double, and a hand double, but hardly a lunch. It was not something we were ever offered. ‘

‘But me and Saoirse, we felt very confident in what we wanted to do with the characters in those intimate scenes. I think the two of us looked a little better together. ‘

The Oscar winner said she wishes intimacy coordinators had been a more common place on film sets in the past.

She said: ‘I definitely wish I had it in the past. I could really get along with that friend.

Just a friend to say, ‘Can you ask him just not to put his hands there? ‘So it’s not you you have to say that can be quite uncomfortable. ‘
