Kansas officers injured in ‘possible explosion’ in downtown Wichita

Three Wichita police officers were injured in a “possible explosion” after being sent to a residence around 4pm on Saturday.

Two of the officers have minor injuries and the third is in a serious but stable condition. All three were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The SWAT team from the Wichita Poice division and the bomb squad are currently on the scene in the 1400 block S St. Francis.

Police negotiators are currently trying to communicate with the suspect in the residence and say they should get outside unarmed.

“We have the whole SWAT team here. We’re not going to leave,” the negotiator told The Wichita Eagle, according to an intercom. “Walk outside the front door, hands up, unarmed, and you will not be harmed.”

The ATF’s field division in Kansas City said it was working with local authorities to investigate the incident.
