Kamala Harris talks to Netanyahu in recent conversation with key world leader

Vice President Kamala Harris and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on Thursday amid growing tensions between the Middle East ally and Iran.

Earlier on Thursday, Israel’s defense minister told Fox News that his country was updating its plans to suspend Iran’s nuclear sites and was prepared to act independently. Just days before, Netanyahu blamed Iran for a mysterious explosion that hit an Israeli-owned cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman last week.

The incident was just the last to spark tensions between the two countries, and it came as Harris apparently moved to an important role in foreign policy.

According to Politico, Harris is trying to work out a specialty in foreign policy and is accepting responsibilities such as solo meetings with foreign leaders.

She spoke to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

In February, President Biden also spoke to Netanyahu about Iran and the work to promote peace in the region.

According to Harris’ office, she supported the US commitment to the partnership with Israel and its security.

“Vice President Kamala Harris spoke by telephone today with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel and emphasized the Biden – Harris Government’s commitment to the US-Israel partnership,” reads a release. “The Vice President emphasizes the United States’ unwavering commitment to Israel’s security. She expressed strong support for Israel’s recent pioneering standardization agreements with countries in the Arab and Muslim world, and emphasized the importance of promoting peace, security and prosperity for Israel and Palestine. “
