Justice League We Live In A Society Line Was Jared Leto’s Idea – / Film

justice league we live in a society

It was a line that resounded throughout the internet when it appeared in a trailer for Zack Snyder’s Justice League: “We live in a society.” For those unfamiliar, this is a familiar internet meme, and not something you would expect in a serious superhero movie. And it was a rule that was said without a hint of irony Jared Leto‘s Joker shot in new scene for director Zack Snyder’s new four-hour track from Justice League. So whose idea was that line? None other than Leto, of course.

One of the new series shot for Zack Snyder’s Justice League is another “Knightmare” series, a sequel to the one we first watched Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, where Ben AffleckBatman’s has a vision of an alternative apocalyptic world where everyone wears dust jackets. And you can not bring Batman’s worst nightmares to life without his greatest enemy, the Joker. Jared Leto repeated his role as the Clown Prince of Crime after his appearance in Suicide Squad to make his cameo in the new Knightmare series, with long hair and a peculiar lack of facial tattoos. The footage shows Leto’s Joker telling Batman, “We live in a society.”

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Zack Snyder credited Leto for saying the famous (or infamous) rule on the set:

“We went back and forth a bit, and I’ll give Jared credit for that little ad-lib there, because it was really, really nice.”

I’m not sure ‘beautiful’ is the way to describe an ad-libbed line that ironically tries to use a ridiculous meme. But it was apparently not ‘beautiful’ enough to be included in the movie, so the joke is on us!

In the interview, Snyder also revealed that Leto and Affleck did not actually shoot the scene due to conflict planning. So it was just Leto advertising rules for the nobody, which is quite funny to think about. The Joker would be proud.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League makes his debut on HBO Max today.
