Between The boys, Invincible, en Superman & Lois, super-daddy issues are all the rage right now. From May 7 we can add Netflix Jupiter’s Legacy to the list.
Based on a cartoon by Mark Millar (Gatskop, Kingsman), Josh Duhamel and Leslie Bibb in the new Netflix series as two parents with a superpower that raises the next generation of Justice League heroes. But as noted in the official description of the program, “the tension increases as the young superheroes, hungry to prove their worth, struggle to live up to their parents’ legendary reputation – and personal standards”. Ben Daniels, Elena Kampouris, Andrew Horton, Mike Wade, Matt Lanter and Ian Quinlan exclude the cast.
In 2017, at a momentous moment in the heyday of Marvel and DC Comics, Netflix entered into an agreement with Millar to acquire the company Millarworld, the maker of the comic strip.
‘As creator and inventor of some of the most memorable stories and characters in recent history, ranging from Marvel’s The Avengers to Millarworld’s Gatskop, Kingsman, Wanted and Born again “Franchises, Mark are as close as you can get to the contemporary Stan Lee,” said Ted Sarandos, then head of Netflix. “We can’t wait to harness the creative power of Millarworld to Netflix and usher in a new era in global storytelling.”
Jupiter’s Legacy is the first show that emerged from the deal. The series premieres on May 7th.
