Judge rules against Britney Spears’ father during conservatory trial

The ongoing legal battle over Britney Spears’ conservatism continued amid a week when the discussion of the pop star’s life and career became a button topic after the launch of the documentary Framed by Britney Spears. At a trial Thursday, a probate judge rejected James “Jamie” Spears’ objection to an order designating the financial institution Bessemer Trust as co-custodian of his daughter’s estate as Variety reports.

As part of the objection, Spears’ father tried to retain the delegation of power from the singer’s investments. However, Los Angeles High Court Judge Brenda Penny denied the objection and upheld her previous ruling from November, which appointed Bessemer along with Jamie Spears as co-conservator. At that point, the judge also denied the singer’s petition to remove her father completely from the conservatory.

During the trial on Thursday, Britney Spears’ lawyer, Samuel Ingham, reiterated the singer’s wishes. “It’s no secret that my client does not want her father as a co-guard, but we realize that removal is a separate matter,” Ingham said.

Less than a week ago, the documentary that the singer has been submitting to the singer since 2008, Framed by Britney Spears, was the premiere on FX and Hulu. The New York Times presents a documentary also features the efforts of the #FreeBritney campaign generated by fans seeking to remove the legal restrictions that govern her finances, life and career.

Subsequent hearings on the conservatory are expected to take place on March 17 and April 27.
