The campaign and paid advertising campaign are aimed at involving residents who may be reluctant to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to Hidalgo’s office, the campaign is entitled ‘Stay smart, do your part’, and it highlights the safety and effectiveness of vaccines.

Newly released vaccine data from Harris County shows that black and Hispanic communities have been vaccinated.

The available data show that 48.3% of those vaccinated in Houston and Harris County are white, 13.4% are Asian, 12.45 black, 11.3% Spanish or Latino and 14% are considered ‘other’ according to city data. listed. If you compare these percentages with the population of each race nationwide, more white and Asian residents are vaccinated compared to Hispanic and black residents.

The City of Houston’s health department says Hispanics make up 55% of COVID-19 deaths, compared with 21% of blacks and 18% of whites and 5.5% of Asians.

Across the country, CDC data show that, compared to whites, Hispanics are 1.7 times more likely to get COVID-19, four times more likely to end up in hospital and nearly three times more likely to die. .

A University of Houston study found that a third of Texans are likely to refuse a COVID-19 vaccine, and that reluctance is especially true among color communities.

The study came when CDC data recently revealed that only 11% of those vaccinated in the first month were Spanish, five percent black and six percent Asian.
