Juan Pablo Raba: El Malo de la Pelicula

A timeless village can be discreet; broken but refined. As described by Juan Pablo Raba to his coyote character “Coyote”, a series about the frontier between the United States and Mexico that, according to the Colombian actor Efe, exemplifies that “the most criminal” are not to be seen.

Raba is an expert in unveiling the darkest side of the world thanks to the role of Gustavo Gaviria in “Narcos” (2015-2017).

Now there are the cars with Michael Chiklis (“The Shield”, 2002-2008) in “Coyote”, series that launched last week on the CBS All Access platform with Michelle MacLaren, who was the producer of “Breaking Bad” (2008- 2013), in the machine room.

“Coyote” centers on Ben (Chiklis), a veteran agent of the EE.UU Patrol Front. which is being wrapped up in a deadly tram to help in Mexico to a woman in pain.

Raba da vida a criminal lame Juan Diego who will be the great unity of Ben pese and that, according to the Latin, pronto both discover that “not his distinction is one of the other”.

P: Juan Diego is a criminal sanguinario, but also sophisticated, intelligent, methodical.

R: Me atrae the idea of actually separating us from a stereotype: ese villano que lo frente a todos y para todos, ese villano que se comporta como tal en toda su vida con su esposa, con sus hijos, hacia sus enemigos. ..

My perception of Juan Diego is that it’s more of a bargaining chip. Its business is not legally necessary, no doubt. But there is no one who can go directly to a drawer.

He organized very well for him so that he could not live. I call the attention that the most criminal offenders in this world are. And the wives on television, in the titles, are spent with their families …

Después, if one averigua a poquito, o when he has a scandal (…), lo hay for debajo is podrido. This is what I call Juan Diego’s attention: I want a guy who actually knows that it’s funny because he’s not acting like a tal.

P: The Latinos critic in EE.UU. which are the menus of narcotics traffickers, prostitutes, etc. Is it preoccupied with encapsulation in this type of criminal character?

R: Rechazo muchos (sonríe). Rechazo los que están mal escritos.

I have no problem interpreting villanos porque en el mundo hay villanos. Geen is a fantasy that we are inventing. And every day hay cartels of the drug, hoo personas trafican con seres humanos …

I work as an artist and I do not judge my character. I do not want to say that I agree with you, but suppose I do not.

But in order to be able to tell a story it is important that we also have to tell these characters, which we can show in all its facets (…). In the medium in which we all deal with our grand arena and have real characters, ultimately what we favor most is history.

P: How did you get involved in a duel in which we had an actor like Michael Chiklis?

R: Chiklis is a natural force. In addition to the meteor in this project of its body, its alma mater and the three years of its life, it is all that one hopes or sees as a star shines.

He is a dedicated, serious, talented, hardworking, lovable, caring character. It is also a type of recipe that you need to see.

What I like most is that at no time is this figure like the colonizer: “I’m the gringo of Hollywood who came to teach me how to do it.”

All contrary. Llega abierto de manos y de mente para aprender. Want to learn Spanish, like whoever comes to Mexico, like to share time with them. It’s really an artist and is destined to emerge all that he permanently.

P: The front is one more “Coyote” person and also has a central point of state politics in the last few years. How did this series of clichés about the front that President Donald Trump and the Republicans launched?

R: First of all, at no point is “Coyote” claiming to be a political series. We have a story that by supuesto hay gente that it was on the political plane, but at the moment we are living.

What makes me look important? Since television, cinema and books have a loupe effect: logran that great themes, great paradigms of society, great dogmas, can be counted in the works of a single person.

When we concentrate on everything big and complex as the problem of immigration, of the frontier, of the Jews, in one of these characters is a little easier to understand. Because it is easier to pose in those zapatos. For it seems to me that there is such an important counter, as haya ‘backlash’ (rechazo), people who do not agree, that lo kritiek …

It’s a problem that has been going on for a long time and is clearly not going to end with this new Administration. It’s a problem in progress, although it’s really going to take a long time, a lot of effort and effort to get to a human place.
