The Los Angeles Angels, desperate to add a starting lineup, on Tuesday agreed to a $ 8 million one-year contract with veteran left-hander Jose Quintana, a source told ESPN.
Quintana, who was previously under current English manager Joe Maddon while at the Chicago Cubs, was limited to just 10 overs in 2020, mainly due to a thumb operation. Beforehand, the 31-year-old started an average of 32 from 2013 to 2019, compiling an ERA of 3.72 with a ratio of 3.23 for an elimination / step.
Quintana joins a rotation that includes Andrew Heaney, Dylan Bundy, Griffin Canning and possibly Shohei Ohtani.
Quintana stands as the fifth addition for one year by first-year general manager Perry Minasian, after shortstop Jose Iglesias, closer Raisel Iglesias, catcher Kurt Suzuki and left-back Alex Claudio. They will earn $ 23.25 million in 2021.
